Death Walking

An Undergraduate Thesis in Studio Art

Studio C Gallery at Colorado College

May 2022

Death walking is the process of guiding and releasing lost or trapped spirits to the other side. I landed at this title towards the end of making the piece, as my process of creating the art became its own method of release.

text displayed beside the work:

I place my work in a geological time-frame, caught in a moment of creation, erosion, collapse, dissipation, growth. My work is here, as evidence of my movements, my knees and fingers and breath. Like a body, mine, yours, here for this moment: there is no final state of completion. I hold my vision for work, art, not in an exact, imagined product, but in a process of chance, intuition, assessment, and response. Bodies on the floor, symbols of what needs to be dealt with, not as burden.

What states do we hold with us as we fury, stand, fall, embrace?
